Phenomenological studies that used Delve

Phenomenological studies use Delve to stay close to participants’ own words while building toward a description of the experience. Most come from psychology, counseling, and health research: severe maternal morbidity, cardiac rehabilitation, parenting a child with medical complexity, help-seeking among police officers.

The samples are small and purposive, usually between four and twenty-five interviews, and the traditions vary: Moustakas, Giorgi, Colaizzi, and hermeneutic approaches all appear. Almost half of these studies coded as a team, which is unusual for the method and reflects how often it is used in clinical settings.

In Delve, phenomenological researchers code significant statements, cluster them into meaning units, and build toward descriptions of the experience. Because the method depends on the participant’s exact words, the excerpt-in-context view on each code page matters more here than any count.
